Hey Diddle Dee Dee, A Teacher's Life For Me - and a Bunch of Giveaways

A Teacher's World

I have always thought long and hard about the injustice of being a teacher compared with other professions. Teaching is a profession in the truest sense of the word - teachers are responsible for teaching the future generations of doctors, dentists, solicitors and a whole host of other professionals, yet are not held in the same professional regard. Molly at Classroom Confections hit the nail on the head with her thoughts on this subject, which I think saddens teachers everywhere.

Sadly, we are moving towards a similar situation in the UK, where national pay scales are in the process of being scrapped in favour of performance related pay (which will undoubtedly not take account of value added, but focus on end-stage outcomes, ie whether each child has made sufficient progress). No recognition of all the time and effort put into each and every child to ensure that they can learn to their optimum potential (which of course for some might only be tiny steps at a time).

Rant over - and thanks to Molly for highlighting this so well.

Shout Outs for Giveaways

There are so many linky parties and giveaways out there at the moment. It's great fun catching up with friends and hitting upon new blogs. I thought I'd just give a quick shout out to two giveaways that I've seen today:

The Picture Book Teacher's Edition is a fantastic blog. Shawna is a girl straight from my own heart. She loves picture books with a passion, just like me, and uses them as a basis for her literacy lessons. Her shop is full of fabulous units and packets designed to accompany the books. I always look forward to getting her update emails.

So, Shawna has been contacted by Authors on the Web dot Com about reviewing a picture book for them. She gladly agreed. They gave her two copies of "Unplugged" to use for a giveaway, so enter to win one of the books plus the packet Shawna created to go with it.

Raffle runs from January 12 to January 18, 2013 5pm PST - click the image to take you to the Rafflecopter. Spread the word!

Now to tell you about another fabulous Giveaway that is going on. You won't want to miss this one. Holly @Fourth Grade Flipper is have a 300 Follower Giveaway. She has 2 rafflecopters one for K-2 and one for 3-5. 18 Bloggers are helping out with this and I'm one of them. I'm giving away 2 items from my TpT store and a mystery parcel. . .

Good luck everyone!
