My Review
The Magical Mind of Mindy Munson is a gorgeous story told through the eyes of four children. The characters are well-developed and evocative - Jesse in particular has a wonderful voice that rings out throughout the whole story, and we clearly hear his childish lisp in his mispronounced words. The plot evokes a roller coaster of emotions that make you laugh and cry; it is crammed full of delightful, magical, amusing and sometimes poignant moments. Underlying the story is a tale of tragedy, but the writer, skilfully recording each episode through the eyes of the children, is able to inject magic and sparkle into this sad tale. At the end of the book the children are able to admit that the things are only present when they feel sad. I highly recommend this little gem especially as a read-aloud book to children ages 7 to 12.
