Now for my reflections on last week. The 7 day placement I had been booked for didn't actually materialise. Well, it did and it didn't if you get my drift.. After bending over backwards to accommodate lots of people who, I was told, were in rather a difficult spot, I turned up at the school on Wednesday. The Head took my into his confidence to a small extent and told me that there was a tricky situation brewing, that the person I was covering had taken retirement with immediate effect, that the staff hadn't been told and neither had the children. It was a difficult day as the class teacher actually turned up to clear away her things, but I got through it. The following day was even more difficult. The staff had been informed before I got there that I would be covering for the teacher, and I was all prepared to start putting my stamp on things. However, things took a tricky turn after lunch when the Head asked to speak to my class. I only really got the gist when I was distributing letters at the end of the day - it appeared that despite the booking (with the expectation that it would carry on until July...) someone else who was a friend of a friend had been engaged to take the class until July... These things happen. However, I was more than a little disappointed that the Head had failed to let me know, and in the meantime I had turned down other offers of work. Grrrr.... All in a day's work though, I suppose.
Today also had me a little baffled. Another promise of a long term contract, a 60 mile round trip to find that I wasn't teaching at all! The class teacher was there along with two other support staff. I asked myself what on earth was the point... Baffling.
Now for happier news. Cynthia over at 2nd Grade Pad is hosting a spring break giveaway party. There's a huge pack of goodies for the winners. Why not pop on over and take a peep.
