Currently in June....

It's been an absolutely jubilicious start to the month here in GB, and it's hard to believe it could possibly get any better. But there's a very small event called the Olympics around the corner... I'm loving reading all the "currently's" you're all posting, so here's my link up to Farley's June party.

For those of you who managed to catch up with any of the events over here, it's been a hectic four days. The fanfare heralding The Queen's arrival at St Paul's today was something special. How do they manage to hold a note...?

In previous years, people wanting to see The Queen et al on the balcony at Buckingham Palace have just rushed forward as fast as they could - quite a scary sight if I'm honest. Now the police do a wonderful job of simply "beckoning" the crowd - it really is a thing of beauty to watch the huge crowds just gently inch forward - a real work of art.

It's been 30 years since we sat our O'Levels (that's graduating Middle School..) - now THAT's a scary thought....   Most of us went on to complete High School before going our separate ways. Many of us made our way back to our home town (it's a Welsh thing - hiraeth (longing)... :-) ) We couldn't let this moment pass without marking it in some way, so we're trying to arrange a get together. Not an easy task, but Facebook is a wonderful thing...

My wish, went and want... Well, I wish I was somewhere dry - anywhere will do. It's lucky that skin is waterproof because this rain leaves nothing to chance! But Hawaii is and always has been top of my wish list. One day.... I went to New York in 2004 when my daughter was 9 - just the tow of us. We had a fabulous time (although there isn't much to do in the Big Apple after dark with a 9 year old...). I'd love to go back there soon. And my want - well, we're trying to work out where to go this year. I'd love it to be France or Italy but it's probably going to be somewhere else. Wherever we end up I'll be sure to post some pics...

Have a wonderful Sunday.

  2. Ooooo! I just found your blog and I am SOOO excited about following a blog from a teacher in another country. I'm your newest follower :) I'm looking forward to reading your posts, especially when thew new school year starts.

I actually did some student teaching in Cambridge through a study abroad program. I'm not sure how similar the schools in Wales are to Cambridge, but I LOVED the schools where I was at. They were completely different than the schools in America (or at least in Florida). I always tell everyone about how awesome the schools are there. I definitely thinking teaching there made me a better teacher!

    1. Hi Katie. Thanks for stopping by - I'm so glad you found me, and now I'm your newest follower.

I agree that in some ways the British system is very good, but in others we are lacking. For example, Religious Instruction and collectuve worship is compulsory, and our days are very structured (unless you're in Foundation Phase where it's all done through play). There are lots of things I really like about the US system and hope sone day to arrange an exchange there - that would be great!

  4. My daughter is working/volunteering for her room and board/visiting relatives in the UK this summer and has been enjoying the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic activities. She saw the Olympic torch in Chester last week (which is kind of cool since the last Winter Olympics were hosted close to us and the torch came through our town). She is working at a farm close to the Welsh border - could you wave towards England and tell Anna her mum loves her!

enjoy all the UK fun this summer

    1. Consider it done! I'm sure Anna is having a blast - she's certainly in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

All our post offices have finally reopened today after the long weekend, so your giveaway goodies are now on their way to you. The lady in the post office tells me it should take around 3 days to reach you.
